Outpatient Mental Health Services

What is Outpatient Mental Health: Family Resource Center of South Florida, Inc. (FRC) provides intensive support services to children, adolescents and adults in crisis as identified by the Department of Children and Families and Our Kids of Miami Dade/Monroe.  Services include individual and family therapy as well as therapeutic visitations for families in the child welfare program by master’s level and licensed clinicians. Psychological evaluations are provided by licensed psychologists and psychiatric services are also provided.

Description of Clients: The primary goal is to provide assessment/triage; referral; individual counseling; group counseling; family counseling; marital counseling; relationship counseling to children, adolescents and adults that have been neglected and/or abused; survivors of sexual abuse and victims of domestic violence and their non-offending family members.

How We Help: The program provides individual counseling as needed; family counseling; group counseling once a week for 90 minutes and a one time triage visit at the client’s home for those clients who are unable to come due to transportation issues, financial reasons or simply because they are afraid due to their immigration status. During the triage visits for abuse and/or neglect, counselors evaluate the parent-child relationship and will focus primarily on Parent Education and develop a treatment plan based on their assessment of the situation to help the families follow their court mandated Case Plan. For domestic violence cases, the counselor will focus primarily on Safety Panning and the Effects of Domestic Violence on Children. For sexual abuse referrals, the counselor will focus on the most pressing issues to the client. These approaches haves helped tremendously in increasing the amount of clients served and in reaching clients that for the reasons mentioned above would never receive services through a social service agency. If the client is admitted into the program they receive continued services at the Homestead and Downtown Miami office.
