Family Resource Center’s
Annual Children’s Hero Award Gala
On November 9th, 2012 at the Conrad Hotel, with close to 200 people in attendance, Family Resource Center recognized Citrus Health Network’s Mario Jardon with the Children’s Hero Award, for his creation of a high quality health center that provides critical behavioral health services to children in the foster care system. Established in 2009, the Children’s Hero Award honors a community leader who has shown incredible foresight and leadership in providing services and access to those youth who have suffered child abuse and neglect in Miami-Dade.

Mr. Jardon is the founding President and CEO of Citrus Health Network, a Federally Qualified Health Center initially established in 1979 as a Community Mental Health Center. After completing a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University, Mr. Jardon began his career in New York City at a therapeutic nursery. From there he was soon promoted to Director of a children’s community mental health center. While on the Board of the South Florida Perinatal Network, he advocated for the legislation that created the Healthy Start Coalitions. He currently serves as Chair of the Health Choice Network’s Managed Care Committee as well as on the Board of Managers of Prestige Health Plan. He was also elected to serve on the Board of the South Florida Behavioral Health Network, the managing entity responsible for oversight of Florida’s Department of Children & Families’ mental health and substance abuse funding. He is relentless in his advocacy for children and the mentally ill by working with elected officials on issues that benefit our community.
